With our discipleship Bands initiative, Seedbed is providing a relational and engaging framework for Christians to support and pray for each other—aiming to become the love of God for each other and the world.
Bands—For Such a Time As This
In 2015, taking inspiration from the band meetings of the early Moravian and Methodist churches, J. D. Walt and Mark Benjamin developed an updated Bands format for our 21st century context.
While we’ve prepared print and video resources aimed at helping others create a culture of banding in their churches and campuses, we’ve kept the model itself completely free—allowing the concept to spread as far and wide as the Spirit will take it.
With a few organizational suggestions, a simple set of commitments, and a carefully-curated set of five transformational questions, this banding practice has spread throughout our Seedbed community, and gathered focused interest from Christian organizations and leaders from around the world.
New Videos, New Churches
Over the past decade, Bands have proven to be a safe and healthy hearth for the fire of awakening to grow in people’s hearts, so they can take that fire on to their homes, churches and cities.
Of course it is nearly impossible to track how many bands have been started in this mode, but based on church implementation and our own survey data, we are confident that tens of thousands people have joined us in this practice.
- We released 10 new videos outlining the Bands framework and the importance of the questions and commitments involved
- We released a pocket-sized meeting guide at New Room Conference 2024 and sold over 5000 cards in under 6 months
- Since New Room Conference 2024 we’ve helped churches across the US (from Oregon to Maryland) and in the UK (London) establish bands in their communities
- The New Room Cohort Program has assembled 60 emerging leaders into bands, for their individual benefit and to help start bands in their churches
- Our recent New Room Conference and New Room Leaders Gathering introduced banding to the entire assembly, utilizing banding dynamics in session response times
